Timbuktu

This beautiful city contains the most exquisite architecture from both Muslim and African cultures because our leader, Mansa Musa loves Timbuktu’s Islamic heritage.   In fact, on his way back from the Hajj he found an Egyptian architect to return to Timbuktu to build the Friday Prayers Mosques.

Timbuktu is the center of learning for the great continent of Africa.  The Sarakole and Mandika peoples have set Timbuktu on a path for great success. There are three universities and close to 200 Qur’anic schools, with books from around the world!  Our great academic center of knowledge attracted Mansa Musa when he conquered the city in 1325. Here you must go through four levels of University to be qualified as a scholar: The primary degree, the secondary degree, the superior degree, and the circle of knowledge.  Such an extensive learning tradition! When you arrive, there are three main cultures that you will meet:  The nomadic tribe of Tuaregs, whose lineage traces back to the Southern Arabs; the nomadic Fulani people, rich with Islamic scholars, and the Islamic Songhai of African warriors, known for being hardworking, courageous, and noble. These groups have created and upheld a remarkable reputation for Africans.
